web design 14/9/09

WEB DESIGN

A web designer creates the visual elements that make up a web page, deciding on layout, colour schemes and text formatting.
A web designer works with a variety of programming languages to create web pages and Internet sites. Web designers are responsible for the visual look of a page, and in larger organisations they usually only work in the design field. In smaller operations they may be responsible for the efficient functioning of the entire site.

A web designer will spend most of their working day on a computer with an Internet connection. This allows a certain freedom to the job and many web designers work from home. In some cases, web design work is outsourced outside of the UK.
HTML, Javascript, CSS, PHP and Flash are the most widely used programming languages that allow web designers to formulate and control different elements on a web page. A web designer must have a good grasp of at least some, if not all, of these. Adobe Photoshop is the most popular image manipulation software, in that most specialist, design incarnation web designers use Photoshop almost exclusively.
People that are interested in being a web designer should get the qualifications
• for the job by going to college and doing a NC,HNC,HND course and then maybe going on to university to gain a masters degree
• Experience working with basic word processor and database packages.
• A reasonable understanding of up-to-date HTML coding.
• Experience with HTML editors such as Dreamweaver.
• Very good knowledge of image manipulation software such as Adobe Photoshop.
• A keen eye for design, colour matching and detail.
• A genuine passion for finding out about and using the latest Internet technologies to make exciting, interactive web pages.

Web designers typically progress to managerial roles such as web editor or web project manager where they will be in control of a large website and perhaps a number of staff. The more technically skilled can work with web architecture where they oversee the layout and programming of a large and complex website.

Sitcom Soldiers are a digital media specialist company, offering a variety of services from web design, photography, web hosting, to video production. They have been working with multi-national companies and worldwide artists from 2003. Although they produce high-end pieces of work for all of their mediums, they have become renowned for their work with music video production.
When creating a music video the producers would have to go through several stages of production. Initially they would have to go through the planning process. Once they had decided settings, lighting, location, hardware needed, etc, they would proceed onto the production stage in which they would create the set and film the footage. After this stage they footage would be uploaded to a computer and edited along to the song the band had chosen. Once the editing stage was complete the video would be given to the band and allowed to distribute it as they want.
Sitcom Soldiers advertise mainly online. At the end of all their videos they have a several second long clip which advertises them and their website. This is how I found out about their website, which proves it is an effective technique. Although Sitcom Soldiers is quite a small company they have proven their work to be very professional.
